Airport Assistance Services

Fast Track Assistance

One minute security at the Barbara Jordan Terminal may be serene and the next it may become congested particularly in the early mornings and during Sunday evenings. Under Fast Track Assistance, an Airport Assist host directs you to the most effective screening lanes and helps you to evade slow moving queues. It comes in handy especially when flying out on the busiest weekends in the festival or on a Monday where business is high.

Meet and Greet

Upon arrival, a Meet and Greet host may be greeted right outside the gate area or at the baggage claim area, Barbara Jordan Terminal. They assist you to get oriented, take you on a tour of the terminal layout and direct you to transport, lounges, or connections.

Lounge Access

AUS does not boast dozens of lounges but the ones it has are worth mentioning. Airport Assist has the capability to refer persons with travel eligibility to the Delta Sky Club or assist in gaining entry to independent lounges such as The Club at AUS. It is a win that is silent in case you are coming early or caught with a late flight.

VIP Assistance

VIP Airport Assistance at AUS is about smoothing the small frictions — curbside arrival, check-in guidance, security coordination, and gate escorting. The terminal isn’t huge, but distances add up when you’re tired or short on time. Business travelers and older passengers tend to benefit the most here.

Family & Special Needs

It is not very difficult to travel with children or older relatives through AUS, but with assistance, it is simplified. Airport Assist is able to plan wheelchair assistance, elevator and accessible restroom assistance, and can assist the family to go through the security without rushing. It is particularly handy when there is a peak in travel seasons and people are just impatient.

Baggage & Porter Help

If you’re arriving with multiple bags — or flying in after a long international leg — porter assistance can make a noticeable difference. Airport Assist helps with luggage collection and movement through the terminal, easing the transition from aircraft to ground transport.

Transit Assistance

In case you are flying between flights (or changing airlines all in the same terminal), Transit Assistance will make sure you know where to go, and how long you have to be there. In AUS most of the connections take place in Barbara Jordan Terminal; nevertheless, the gate walks may also be long.

Layover & Connection Tips

  • Know your terminal before you arrive. Most flights use the Barbara Jordan Terminal; the South Terminal is separate and not walkable. Switching terminals requires a car or shuttle, so double-check your ticket before planning tight connections.
  • Security lines fluctuate more than you’d expect. The airport is Busiest in the morning (5-8 am) and Saturdays in the afternoon. It is typically cooler in the middle of the day and in the late afternoons, particularly during the weekdays.
  • There’s no internal train or people mover. AUS is a single-terminal walk for most travelers, so wear comfortable shoes if you’re at a far gate.
  • Lounge access is limited but useful. The Club at AUS (near Gate 13) accepts Priority Pass and paid entry, making it a good fallback if airline lounges are full.
  • International arrivals are straightforward but time-sensitive. The Barbara Jordan Terminal is the point of customs and immigration. When you are transferring to other domestic destinations, you will need to allot time to baggage re-inspections and security re-checks.
  • Wi-Fi is free and generally reliable. You don’t need to reauthenticate every few minutes, which makes AUS friendlier than many U.S. airports for remote work.
  • Food closes earlier than you might expect. Late-night dining options thin out after 9–10 pm, so eat early if you’re on an evening departure.
  • Overnight layovers are doable but limited. No on site transit hotel but a number of adjacent hotels have fast rideshares. Several sections of the terminal have comfortable seating, but are not suitable for full overnight sleep.
  • Baggage storage is limited as the services are most effective when reserved in advance, particularly when there are large festivals such as SXSW, or ACL.
  • Use airline apps aggressively. Gate changes and delays at AUS are usually updated first via airline apps rather than overhead announcements.
  • Recommended layover times (realistic):
    • Domestic → Domestic: 60–90 minutes
    • Domestic → International: 2 hours
    • International → Domestic: 2.5–3 hours
  • Live music stages double as rest spots. If you want to sit without feeling guilty, these areas are relaxed and socially accepted hangout zones.
  • Accessibility is solid but request ahead. Wheelchair services work best when pre-booked, especially during major events like SXSW or ACL.
